The work on the new Centro de Salud de Alhaurín el Grande will start in September.  The Centro will open mid-2010.

This week the council of Alhaurin el Grande has awarded the work for the Centro to the company “IMAGA, proyectos y construcciones S.A.” amounting to a total of 3,257,709 euros.

Mayor Juan Martín who announced the news, said "1.6 million euros will be reserved until the work has been completed to make sure there are no other possible contingencies or investments. The execution time for the build is 18 months, so that by mid 2010 once the facilities have been equipped the Centro de Salud will open and could become”.

The total budget for these works amounts to three million euros which consists of the Centro de Salud and municipal units. The Andalusian Servicio Andaluz de Salud provides 50% of the cost and the town hall the other 50% plus the cost of the municipal units. The Consistory has also sorted out the the plot of 2,232 m2 where the Centro de Salud. The current Centro de Salud will be earmarked for social use. The SAS will finance the equipping of the building for its operation.

The new Centro de Salud will be located on a plot next to the Guardería Municipal, on the Variante Sur. The project will be a modern four-storey building to be built in a phased manner exploiting the use of the land.

Note that the new Centro de Salud de Alhaurin el Grande will have modern equipment, include a total of 36 consultations area, pediatrics and minor surgery, a health education area, large reception areas, waiting room, administrative areas, and support staff, as well as units for the new services available - basic radiology, dentistry and rehabilitation and a expansion of the emergency services.

The mayor welcomed the works, and stated "This is a health centre in line with the needs of Alhaurin el Grande, a modern building, located in a strategic place in the municipality wich will substantially improve the service, expanding the number of visitors and professionals and including new services in addition to improving the emergency services creating a higher quality of healthcare.”
